A palette of peace

11 Sep 2025

Every year on September 21, the United Nations marks the International Day of Peace. This date is a commitment to peace and aims to nurture a culture of non‑violence and understanding across every corner of the world. It’s a moment to pause and invite calmness into our lives and that same essence of peace can flow into how we shape our homes. The right Resene palette, soft textures and a thoughtful layout can turn your space into a haven of serenity.

Gentle greens echo the natural world, restoring balance and harmony. Try barely there greens on bedroom or bathroom walls like Resene Swans Down and Resene Carefree, or deeper muted greens in an office or living room like Resene Bud and Resene Spanish Green:

Like still water or a clear sky, soft blues bring a sense of calm and clarity to interiors. Blues work well in any space, as well as on exterior weatherboards and cladding. Try Resene Tranquil, Resene Cut Glass, Resene Oxygen and Resene Nepal:

Warm neutrals create a soothing backdrop that lets the mind rest. Think Resene Merino, Resene Cloud and Resene Linen paired with a light wood stain on furniture or flooring like Resene Rock Salt:

Here's a few peaceful designs to remind you how soothing colour can be:

The ultimate shade of solace, Resene Peace, graces these dining room walls and the plant basket. The floor painted in Resene Elderflower with a pattern in Resene Peace, dining table and chairs in Resene Elderflower and vases in Resene New Leaf and Resene Smoothie. The peaceful pink of Resene Soothe on these walls makes this an inviting and serene place to rest. The hand painted cherry blossom mural is in Resene Sauvignon, Resene Vanquish and Resene Haven, vase and screen frame in Resene Sauvignon, bench seat in Resene Soothe and bedside cabinet in Resene Half Halcyon. Bedlinen from Father Rabbit, cushion from Baya, lamp from Soren Liv. Mural by Hannah Tapner, project by Melle van Sambeek, image by Bryce Carleton.

Soothing blues and neutrals collide in this bedroom.
