A splash of pot-tential: DIY pot and saucer bird bath
17 Jan 2024
If your garden is a haven for birds then this fun bird bath project could be worth a try. Not only will you save some money on a store bought bird bath, it will look great in your garden and can be custom painted in your favourite Resene colours. Give the birds somewhere cool to bath this summer!
You will need:
- 1 x terracotta saucer 36cm for the top
- 1 x terracotta saucer 31cm for the base
- 3 x terracotta pots 25cm
- Fine paintbrush
- Super glue
- Ceramic bird (optional)
- Resene testpot paintbrush
- Resene Aquapel & Terracotta Sealer
- Resene testpots in paint colours of your choice. We used Resene Brown Sugar, Resene Bone and Resene Kalgoorie Sands
Step 1: Coat the pots inside and out with Resene Aquapel & Terracotta Sealer. Coat one saucer on all sides and leave the other uncoated.
Step 2: Paint your base saucer in your chosen Resene paint colour. We used Resene Brown Sugar. We left our large saucer unpainted.
Step 3: Paint your pots in your chosen Resene paint colours. We used Resene Brown Sugar, Resene Bone and Resene Kalgoorie Sands.
Step 4: Using a fine paintbrush, paint a simple design onto your pots. You can do any design you like, or just a simple paint colour if you wish.
Step 5: Once everything is painted, stack your bird bath, then glue the pieces together one at a time using super glue. Place your bird bath in your garden or on your patio and fill the top saucer with some water.
