‘Can-quer' this challenge: DIY tin can bowling
04 Jul 2023
Grab your brushes and select a vibrant palette of Resene colours, for this DIY will not only test your aim but also showcase your artistic prowess. Transform ordinary tin cans into bright stripes of colour as you make your own tin can bowling game. Use whatever colours you like and get creative with patterns, shapes or your favourite characters and challenge the family to a duel!
You will need:
- Six tin cans
- Sandpaper
- Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer
- Paintbrush
- Resene testpot in paint colours of your choice. Fleur used Resene Ocean Waves, Resene White and Resene Red Hot for the colours of France and to celebrate Bastille Day.
Step 1: Start by removing the labels off the cans and roughly sand each can with coarse grit sandpaper. Apply one coat of Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer to each can.
Step 2: Once the primer has dried, paint on stripes of your first Resene paint colour. Fleur used Resene White. Apply two coats, allowing for the first coat to dry before applying the second.
Step 3: Apply stripe in two coats of your second Resene paint colour. Fleur used Resene Ocean Waves.
Step 4: Apply stripes in your final Resene paint colour. Fleur used Resene Red Hot.
Step 5: Once the paint has dried, set the cans up in a pyramid and have fun trying to knock them down with a ball.
