A cane table gets a classy makeover

This old cane table was given a full refurb with on-trend colour and a fun paint technique using Resene testpots. Sarah Herring shows us how to recreate the look.

You will need:

• Second-hand cane side table (this one was from the Salvation Army)
• Cotton buds or small straw
• Resene testpots in Resene Ruck N Maul, Resene Rascal and Resene Black White
• Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer
• Resene testpot brush

Step one. Give the table a wipe down to get rid of any dust. Remove the glass top and place it somewhere safe, and then paint the table with a coat of Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer. Allow to dry.

Step two. Paint the table in Resene Ruck N Maul. Allow to dry.

Step three. While the table dries, it’s time to decorate the glass top. Using a cotton bud or a skinny straw, dip into the Resene Rascal testpot and carefully place spots on the glass starting from the corner outward. Paint the drops in a clustered pattern, gradually spacing them further apart.

Step four. Repeat the same process again, using Resene Black White. Once dry, return the glass top to the table.
