A feast for the eyes: Christmas table setting ideas

15 Dec 2021

Before the turkey or ham arrives on the Christmas table, deck out your table with napkin rings which set the scene with finishing touches using a splash of Resene colour.

Add a little golden glow to the dinner table with a pinecone napkin ring and name card holder, glistening in Resene FX Metallic.

You will need:

  • Pinecones
  • Resene testpots in your choice of colour, we used Resene FX Metallic in Resene Gold
  • Testpot brush
  • Ribbon (for napkin ring)
  • Glue for attaching ribbon to pinecone
  • Card (for place setting name)
  • Pen for writing name on place setting card

Step 1: Paint your pinecone in Resene FX Metallic in Resene Gold.  Give it two coats for best coverage. For better coverage use the recommended basecoat colour before applying the metallic paint.

Step 2:  Cut out a small piece of card and write the guest’s name on it. Slot name card into the pinecone and place on the plate.

Use homemade Christmas tags to bring cheer to the table. Painted wooden tags can double as tree decorations, present toppers, a festive garland and more.

You will need:

Step 1:  Paint tags in Resene Merlot and Resene Quarter Spanish White. You will need two coats on the front and back of each, allowing adequate drying time between coats.

Step 2: Thread string, twine or ribbon onto each tag, adding a knot at the end.
