Design a kitchen with confidence with Blum’s Kitchen Test Drive

11 Aug 2022

There’s nothing like planning your dream kitchen, the heart of a home. However, it can be tricky to see the way a design translates from the plan to your abode. How can you tell if you have the right amount of storage for a growing family, or enough bench space to make pancakes? Blum has the solution.

A well-designed kitchen should last a lifetime, and thanks to Blum’s Kitchen Test Drive, you can try out a 1:1 scale mock-up of your project in one of their showrooms for free. Once you have the plans from your designer, schedule your appointment and let the friendly team at Blum answer all the important questions before you commit to production.

Enjoy a coffee in a relaxed environment and check if your kitchen layout really does work the way you envisioned it. There are showrooms in Auckland and Christchurch with kitchen experts to guide you.

“A kitchen layout before it’s built can be hard to imagine,” says Blum marketing manager Kate Kapitonova. “It’s about making sure items are stored in the right zones and checking the amount of storage required for your household shopping habits – even whether handles collide when you open cupboards. Kitchen projects can feel overwhelming, but we’re here to help and simplify the process.”

The Blum Kitchen Test Drive service is all about allowing people to really visualise themselves in their new kitchen, Kate says. It offers peace of mind, as you can alter the design before any building goes ahead. Simply book an appointment, send through your plans, and test drive your kitchen.

3 things to consider before designing your dream kitchen:

1.Consider your household: Although colour schemes might be the first thing to spring to mind when you set about designing a kitchen, there’s something slightly simpler to consider first. Have a good think about who is going to be using your kitchen: Are you designing a space for a couple, a growing family, or maybe you have teenagers? This will help dictate your need for space. E.g., how much room will you need in your pantry? Do you tend to shop in bulk and store things in large containers, or do you stick to smaller shops throughout an average week? What do you usually cook, and what utensils are you constantly reaching for?

2.Picture yourself using your kitchen: A good layout will allow you to move smoothly between your stove, refrigerator, bench top and sink. Think about giving yourself enough space so if two people are in the kitchen, you aren’t knocking elbows. It’s a good aim to make sure any traffic through the kitchen won’t interfere with food preparation.

3. Consider the social aspect of a kitchen: Modern kitchens generally are in favour of being open and inviting now. Ideally they should be versatile, and a relaxing space to entertain/socialise as well as cook. Keeping this in mind while you’re in the planning phase will influence your design decisions. E.g., have you considered a kitchen island or bar stools?
