Welcome visitors with this quick and easy painted door mat that’ll give your ‘habitat’ an extra dose of curb appeal.
You will need:
- Coir door mat
- Testpot in your choice of colour – we used Resene Tuna
- Testpot brush
- Painter’s masking tape
- Felt tip marker
- House-shaped template printed on A4 paper (download below)
- Scissors
Step 1 Print the house-shaped template at the bottom of this page on to A4-sized paper and cut it out with scissors.
Step 2 Using a felt tip marker, trace the outline of the template on to the centre of your coir mat.
Step 3 Apply painter’s tape to mask around the outside of the house outline.
Step 4 Using a testpot brush, fill in the house shape with most of your chosen Resene testpot. We used Resene Tuna to paint our mat. Use a dabbing motion to get paint deeper into gaps, but save a little bit of paint for touch ups.
Step 5 Carefully remove the masking tape while the paint is still wet.
Step 6 Touch up any areas you may have missed and fill in any gaps.
Step 7 Be sure to let your door mat dry completely before using it. For best results, let it cure completely for one week before getting it wet.
