DIY marble candlesticks

03 Aug 2017

Did you know that you can create a beautiful marble effect on everyday objects, using Resene paint? DIY marbling has risen in the ranks of interior trends, with its beautiful swirls and luxe feel. Bring the look into your own home with this method, using Resene Lusta-Glo paint. Leigh Stockton shows us how.

You will need:

Wooden candlesticks
Testpot in Resene Bianca
Resene Lusta-Glo in Resene Steam Roller
Plastic tub
Flat painter's brush

Step 1: Basecoat the candlesticks with two coats of Resene Bianca.

Step 2: Fill the plastic tub with water, making sure it’s large enough to dip your object in.

Step 3: Using Resene Lusta-Glo in Resene Steam Roller, dip the brush into the paint, then touch it to the surface of the water. The paint will disperse but not dilute because it is oil-based.

Step 4: Place your object gently on to the surface of the water and either roll it over, or raise, turn and place so that all of it is covered in the marble-like effect.

Step 5: Remove and allow to dry.

Top tip

Being a solventborne paint, Resene Lusta-Glo is different to waterborne paints when it comes to handling and clean up. Wear gloves while handling and have turps on hand, available from Resene ColorShops, for clean up.
