Easy DIY: painted breakfast tray

02 May 2017

Don't forget it's Mother's Day coming up... why not spoil her with breakfast in bed, served on this beautifully painted tray? Nikki Astwood of Revised Edition has painted hers in dusky pastel colours from Resene, and it looks good enough to eat! Here's how to create the look.

You will need:

  • Wooden tray
  • Sandpaper
  • Pencil and ruler
  • Paintbrush
  • Masking tape
  • Testpots in Resene Sea Nymph, Resene Japonica, Resene Tequila and Resene Wax Flower

Begin by painting the sides of the tray in Resene Sea Nymph, and let dry. Mask out the middle of your tray and paint in Resene Wax Flower. Once dry, use the pencil and ruler to create the pattern above – similar to how you would slice a cake. Mask off each piece, and paint them in testpots of Resene Sea Nymph, Resene Japonica and Resene Tequila, leaving one slice in Resene Wax Flower.

Serve with mum's favourite hot drink and breakfast treat, and you'll make her day!
