Easy DIY: spice jars

24 Aug 2017

Spice up your kitchen bench with these stylish labelled jars, painted in dusky oranges and neutrals from the Resene range.

These jars don't have to be exclusively to hold spices... use them in your bathroom to store cotton wool, or your bedroom for all your bits and bobs. Nikki Astwood of Revised Edition takes us through this DIY.

You will need: Glass jam jars, Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer, Resene Blackboard Paint, testpots in Resene Alpaca, Resene Pearl Bush, Resene Cest La Vie and Resene Gold Coast, masking tape, paint brushes and chalk pen. Chalk pens don’t tend to rub out like normal chalk does, so if you if you want an option that can be rubbed out and renamed, use normal chalk.

Paint the jam jars with Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer, and leave them to dry according to the instructions. Using the Resene testpots, paint over the sealer to add colour.

Once dry, mask out a stripe with tape onto each jar and apply the Resene Blackboard Paint. Take the tape off before the paint dries. Once dry, write the labels on each jar with the chalk pen. Fill with spices, and enjoy this cool, new addition to your kitchen bench!
