Get saucy - how to make your own DIY condiment holder

05 Aug 2025

This do-in-a-day DIY condiment holder is a must have for any household. Not only is it great for carrying your sauces outside in BBQ season, but it can also work for carrying drinks outside, or as a small handmade giftbox to pack full of goodies for a loved one. We painted ours in a monochrome scheme, but you could go as colourful as you want with your favourite Resene testpots and even add patterns if you like!

You will need:

  • One small wooden crate (ours was 16cm long and 10cm high)
  • Two small wooden paddle boards (ours are 33cm tall and 17cm wide)
  • Small piece of dowel to fit in the hole of the paddle board
  • Wood glue
  • Paintbrush
  • Resene testpot colours of your choice. We used Resene Ironsand and Resene Thorndon Cream

Step 1:Paint the two paddle boards and piece of dowel in one of your chosen Resene colours. We used Resene Ironsand for ours.

Step 2:Paint the mini crate in another of your chosen colours. We used Resene Thorndon Cream for our crate.

Step 3:Measure the width of your crate and cut the dowel to the same length. Take the piece of dowel and screw it into the holes of the paddle boards.

Step 4:Use wood glue to glue the sides of the crate and then place the two paddles on the side of the crate and hold for a few minutes while the glue sets.

Step 5: Add your condiments to the holder and have on hand for entertaining.
