On the hook

07 Mar 2025

Headphones are a common part ofour daily lives these days, whetherit’s for podcast listening, work callsor catching up on your favouritetunes. It’s handy to have somewhereout-of-the way to keep your headsetwhen not in use, but close enoughto grab it easily when you need it.This stylish yet very simple to makeheadphone hook is just the thing.

You will need:

  • Radiata pine or Rimu: 80mm (w) x80mm (h) x200mm (h)

  • Bracket to attach against the wall or drill a hole for a nail

  • 220 grit sandpaper

Step 1

Cut a block of wood to create the vertical triangle shape with a handsaw

Step 2

For interest, also create a triangle shape at the top and base of the block. To do this, with a pencil mark a triangle on the top and base of the block. We suggest these triangles come in about 40mm from the top and bottom

Cut the triangles from the middle line out to the edge.

Step 3

Repeat the marking and cutting on the base.

Step 4

Sand the edges and surfaces. Wipe off the sanding dust with a damp cloth.

Step 5

To create the hook for the headphones, from the top cut downwards about 40mm, then cut in from the back of the block to meet the first cut line.

Step 6

Sand edges and all surfaces with a sander and then finish with 220 grit sandpaper. Wipe off the sanding dust.

Add the hanger to the back of the headphone hook block.

Top tip:

  • If you’d prefer your headphone hook to blend into the wall, paint it in the same Resene paint colour and finish as your wall.  This will help to hide it when it’s not in use.

  • Create a bank of headphone holders for each family member and paint each in their favourite colour so there are no arguments over where each headphone goes.

  • For a natural look finish, use Resene Colorwood wood stain or Resene Colorwood We Speak Beach stain wash finishes instead of paint.  This will enhance the timber’s colour while still allowing the wood grain finish to show through.
