Hold that thought: DIY note and phone holder
24 Jul 2024
Now here is a handy DIY to try. These note and phone holders will give you somewhere to put your notes, to-do lists and phone. They are also great if you’re following a recipe on your phone and want to stand it up in the kitchen for easy viewing. Make them as colourful as you like by painting them with your favourite Resene testpot shades.
You will need:
- Wood, untreated pine, 6.5cm x 3.2cm glued together
- Saw
- Wood glue
- Table saw
- Sandpaper
- Painters tape
- Paintbrush
- Resene testpots in your chosen colours. Fleur used Resene Elephant, Resene Fire and Resene Gingko
- Resene Aquaclear satin
Step 1: You’ll need a piece of wood about 6.5cm x 6.5cm square. Fleur glued two bits of wood 65mm x 32mm together and cut them to 12cm lengths. Glue these together with wood glue and leave to dry.
Step 2: Set the blade on a table saw to 35 degrees and cut through the block from one corner to the opposite corner. Do this several times, moving the table saw fence and wood block a little bit each time until you have a channel wide enough to hold your note paper (or thickness of your phone).
Step 3: Flip the block of wood over and cut off the smaller side of the block so that it leaves a lip to hold the note paper or phone. Sand any rough edges smooth.
Step 4: Paint your holders in your chosen Resene colours how you wish. If you want a pattern like Fleur’s, use painters’ tape to tape off sections of the block and paint with Resene Gingko, Resene Fire and Resene Elephant. Remove the tape and once the paint is dry, seal with two coats of ReseneAquaclear satin.
Step 5: Place your holders on your desk or in the kitchen and add note paper and your phone.
