How to make a DIY raincloud for kids
26 May 2022
If you’re after a rainy day activity this winter, what better craft to make than a DIY raincloud with the kids. Best of all, it’s made from materials you probably have lying around your home, like egg cartons and cotton wool.
This fluffy little raincloud has been brought to life with Resene Half Sail,Resene Picton Blue,Resene Wet N Wild and Resene Cobalt. The wall is in Resene Eighth Canterbury Clay and tray in Resene Venice Blue.
You will need:
- 3 or 4 egg cartons
- Craft knife
- Paintbrush
- String
- Cardboard
- Scissors
- PVA glue
- Cotton wool
- Resene testpots in your choice of colours (Fleur used Resene Half Sail, Resene Picton Blue, Resene Wet N Wild and Resene Cobalt)
How to:
Step 1: Use a craft knife to cut off the middle pointy bits of 3-4 egg cartons. Fleur used 16 pointy bits.
Step 2: Paint four of the egg carton bits in each of the following colours: Resene Half Sail, Resene Picton Blue, Resene Wet N Wild and Resene Cobalt
Step 3: While they are drying, cut out a cloud shape from cardboard and paint Resene Picton Blue and Resene Cobalt on to the lower two-thirds of the cloud. Spread on PVA glue to the remaining white unpainted area and cover this area with cotton balls.
Step 4: Carefully paint on more Resene Picton Blue on to the underside of the cotton balls.
Step 5: Poke a hole in the top of each of the egg carton bits and thread a length of string through them, so they form a graduated colour scheme. Tie knots in the string to stop each of the egg cartons bits from slipping down.
Step 6: Use tape to attach each of the strings to the back of the cloud.
