Mini makeover: Frou-frou your fruit bowl

08 Nov 2016

Is your fruit bowl looking a bit drab? Do you love that timber look but feel it needs something else?

Nikki Astwood of Revised Edition used twists of vibrant colour to snake up this old wooden bowl – the perfect colours for summer and the perfect place for your citrus.

She's used a classic complementary scheme of orange and blue (Resene Tangerine and Resene Deep Koamaru), accented with pale pale pink (Resene Tuft Bush), but there are so many other shades you can have fun with – have a look at the new Resene The Range fashion fandeck 18 here for endless inspiration.

And don't forget to message us or post your DIY projects using Resene paint on our Facebook page. We love hearing from you.

You will need

Scissors, sandpaper, masking tape, Resene testpots of your chosen colours, a testpot brush, Resene Acrylic Undercoat, a ruler, and a bowl.

  • Roughly sand the bowl to provide a ‘key’ for the paint. Place the masking tape in your desired pattern over the bowl and into the interior.
  • Apply a coat of Resene Acrylic Undercoat. Leave to dry.

  • Then use your chosen colours in blocks around the bowl, leaving some clear so that the timber shows through. Leave to dry then apply a second coat if necessary. You can finish timber areas in clear Resene Aquapoxy to protect the wood and make it easier to clean later.

  • ?Fill with fruit and enjoy!
