A pot-tastic DIY: Make your own colourful plant pots
22 Feb 2024
We all have old plant pots lying around that look dated or are not getting used. No matter the shape or size, you can bring them back to life using your favourite Resene testpot colours. It will also give you an excuse to add some lush greenery to your space!
You will need:
- 3 terracotta pots
- Resene Aquapel & Terracotta Sealer
- Resene Quick Dry
- Resene testpot paintbrush
- Low tack painters tape
- Resene testpots in paint colours of your choice. Fleur used Resene Lemon Ginger, Resene Sunglo, Resene Pompadour, Resene Elephant, Resene Midnight Moss, Resene Vanquish, Resene Porsche and Resene Bullion
Step 1: Start by sealing each of your pots inside and out with Resene Aquapel & Terracotta Sealer.
Step 2: To make sure the colour of your final topcoat is at its best, prime the pots with a coat of Resene Quick Dry.
Step 3: Paint one half of your pots in your chosen Resene paint colours. Fleur used Resene Lemon Ginger, Resene Sunglo and Resene Pompadour. Apply two coats.
Step 4: Once the first colour has dried, use some low tack painters tape to mask off half of the pot. Paint the other half in your chosen Resene paint colours. Fleur used Resene Elephant, Resene Midnight Moss and Resene Vanquish. Apply two coats and remove the tape while the second coat of paint is still wet.
Step 5: Once the paint is dry, use a short length of tape to mask off the start of the line and paint two wobbly lines halfway around the pot, one near the top of the pot and one near the bottom. For this, Fleur used Resene Porsche.
Step 6: Paint over this wobbly line with two coats of your chosen Resene FX Metallic paint colour. Fleur used Resene Bullion.
