Our favourite colour choices from TVNZ's Love It or List It NZ
11 Sep 2025
TVNZ’s Love It or List It NZ has just wrapped up with plenty of laughs, design drama and some tough choices for Kiwi homeowners caught between staying put or starting fresh. Hosted by interior designer and The Block winner Alex Walls and real estate agent Paul Glover, the show was a mix of creative renovations and tempting new properties, with the families left deciding whether to love their restored home… or list it for something new!
We’re looking back at some of the standout spaces and our favourite Resene colour choices from the season. And these rooms reminded us just how much the right colour can completely change the way you feel about your own home.
Episode One:
Anita and Rogan’s 1940s villa looked picture perfect from the outside but slightly less harmonious inside. Alex stepped in to bring flow and function to the layout, while Paul lined up alternative properties that promised to solve all their frustrations in one move. What we’re loving most is the bold Resene Quarter Ironsand feature wall in Anita and Rogan’s bedroom which perfectly frames the view of the backyard. It’s also the perfect contrast to the surrounding walls in Resene Barely There.
Episode Two:
Erin and Christian’s charming 1920s bungalow saw a clash between character and modern living. With a layout that kept the family in separate corners of the house, Alex worked to reimagine the space on a tight budget while Paul tempted them with Auckland homes, where of course, charm came at a premium. Our favourite choice from Erin and Christian was their pick of the classic white, Resene Sea Fog, which creates the ultimate backdrop for artwork and personal trinkets.
Episode Three:
Hayley and Craig’s 1950s brick-and-tile family home had plenty of history, but very little flow. With a dated layout that cut the family off from each other, as well as the backyard, Alex worked to modernise this much-loved house, while Paul searched for options that delivered something with a little more contemporary comfort. Our top picks for this home were the bedroom, now adorned in the dreamy Resene Merino, and the children’s room featuring the olive green of Resene Hemlock.
Episode Four:
Helen and Bob’s home came with stunning views of the bush, but the dysfunctional living spaces couldn’t keep up with their love of entertaining. Alex set out to tackle the tricky layout and attempts of past renovations, and Paul upped the stakes with tempting properties that promised to match their lifestyle. Our favourite rooms are both graced in striking Resene blues, with Resene Half Smalt Blue in the bedroom and Resene Quarter Periglacial Blue in the living room.
Episode Five:
Tom and Lani’s cosy 1960s unit no longer fit the bill once their toddler arrived. And with hopes of a bigger family, space was running out fast. Alex tried stretching a tight budget to make the small spaces work harder, and Paul looked for alternatives in one of the country’s most competitive property markets. We love the transformation of Tom and Lani’s home, in particular their bedroom where they used the muted green of Resene Lemongrass and the nursery, which is now coated in Resene Sea Fog, leaving colour and design open as their toddler grows.
Episode Six:
Set in a lush rainforest setting, Chris and Erin’s 1950s weatherboard home was charming, but short on space. The constant upkeep was also wearing them down. With two energetic boys and a healthy budget, Alex worked hard to reimagine their space, while Paul searched for a larger, low-maintenance home nearby that could tempt them away from the dense forest. Our favourite picks from this episode were the colour choices of Resene Bandicoot, an earthy olive green, and the creative striped wall in the children’s room featuring Resene Streetwise, an adaptive slate blue.
If you haven’t been tuning in to this exciting prime-time show, now’s your chance to see the finished designs and find out whether these Kiwi families stayed put in their refreshed homes or decided to vacate to a new spot.
