Personalise your own print

11 Dec 2019

Add a your own creative twist to a shop-bought art print using a few Resene testpots to bring fun colour and personalisation to any room of your home.

You will need:

  • Framed print of your choice (black and white photo prints works best for this project, but any art print will do!)
  • Resene testpots in your choice of colours – Sarah used Resene Witch Hazel, Resene Dauntless, Resene Irresistible and Resene Home Run
  • Small artist brushes
  • Testpot in Resene Black and a fine brush or black art pen

Step 1 Remove a store-bought art print from its frame. Sarah purchased her poster-sized llama from Kmart.

Step 2 Choose a selection of vibrant and fun Resene testpots. Sarah used Resene Witch Hazel, Resene Dauntless, Resene Irresistible and Resene Home Run.

Step 3 Using small artist brushes, add shapes and designs in different colours around the images. You may like to add text or draw detail onto the subjects like adding patterns to clothing or sunglasses over the eyes. Sarah chose to ‘frame’ the main subject in the print with a variety of fun shapes and patterns to give it an 80s vibe. Use all your paint colours equally and have fun with it. There’s no right or wrong with this kind of project.

Step 4 Once your paint is dry, outline the shapes in Resene Black using a fine artist’s brush or a fine black art pen to add definition, help tidy up the paintwork and make it pop.

Step 5 Place your print back in the frame, hang and enjoy! Now you have a print that is custom painted by you, one of a kind, and totally on trend.
