29 Jul 2025
Invite some friends over, light the fire, and serve up some yummy crackers and cheese on these colourfully stylish DIY cheese boards. The best part about these is that you can paint them in whatever colour you like, head to your local Resene ColorShop and pick out your favourite testpot shades!
You will need:
- Charcuterie boards
- Sandpaper
- Painters tape
- Resene Quick Dry
- Paintbrush
- Resene Aquaclear
- Resene testpots in your favourite colours. Fleur used Resene Japonica, Resene Vermont, Resene Wax Flower, Resene Awaken, Resene Apple Blossom, Resene Fire, Resene Roxy, Resene Shiraz, Resene Bush and Resene Black
Step 1: Start by washing the boards in hot soapy water to remove any food oil. Leave them to dry completely. Sand the area that you want to paint with medium grit sandpaper. Wipe the dust away. Apply painters tape to tape off the area that you want to paint and then prime this area with one coat of Resene Quick Dry. Once this is dry, paint the same area with your base colour. Fleur used Resene Vermont and Resene Japonica.
Step 2: Have fun painting on a pattern however you like, and with your chosen colours. To replicate Fleur’s boards, here is what she did for each:
Folk art flowers: Use small craft paintbrushes and a steady hand to paint simple flower shapes in Resene Fire, Resene Awaken, Resene Roxy, Resene Bush, Resene Apple Blossom, Resene Shiraz and Resene Black.
Psychedelic stripes: Use a thin paintbrush to paint on wavy stripes in varying widths with Resene Vermont, Resene Bush, Resene Japonica, Resene Fire, Resene Shiraz, Resene Awaken and Resene Roxy.
Geometric colour blocking: Use painters tape to tape off triangles and paint them with Resene Japonica, Resene Fire and Resene Bush.
Spots and dots: Use the end of a paintbrush to dip into paint and then dot it over your board with Resene Japonica, Resene Awaken, Resene Fire, Resene Roxy, Resene Bush, Resene Shiraz, Resene Wax Flower, Resene Apple Blossom and Resene Black.
Step 3: Once the paint has dried, seal the painted area with two coats of Resene Aquaclear in a satin finish. Let this dry completely and give them a rinse before serving up your snacks.
