These DIY galaxy shoes are out of this world

Is your wardrobe a black hole featuring a pair of shoes that take up space? Embark on a space odyssey and upcycle them into exciting, otherworldly sneakers. This nifty DIY takes shoes to new heights with the help of a paint brush, some foam and Resene’s testpot range that has every colour under the sun.
You will need:
- Canvas shoes
- A selection of craft brushes, including a very slim brush
- Piece of foam
- Paint mixing tray
- Your choice of Resene testpots – Fleur used Resene Aviator, Resene Black and Resene White
Step 1: Start by removing the laces from a pair of simple canvas shoes.
Step 2: Paint the canvas area of the shoes in your choice of Resene testpots – Fleur used Resene Aviator.
Step 3: Using your choice of Resene testpot, Fleur used Resene Black, and a medium-sized craft brush, paint carefully around the edge of the sole. Blend the two colours together using a dry brush. You can also use Resene Black to darken other areas of the shoes, such as around the laces.
Step 4: To make some of the areas lighter, Fleur mixed a small portion of Resene White with Resene Aviator to make a mid-blue colour. She then used a small piece of foam to dab the mid-blue onto the shoe.
Step 5: Dab the dry end of the foam very lightly into your choice of Resene colour – Fleur used Resene White. Wipe off any excess paint before dabbing the foam lightly onto the shoe to create tiny stars.
Step 6: Using a very thin craft brush, dab and paint on a variety of different sized stars, Fleur used Resene White and the mid-blue paint colour she created.
Step 7: Allow the paint to dry before re-lacing, then you’re ready to step into infinity and beyond.
