“Green’ up your act and get DIYing this St Patty’s day! St. Patrick's Day is celebrated in honour of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. Beginning many years ago, the holiday has now evolved into a celebration of Irish culture with parades, special foods, music, dancing and a whole lot of green! Make your own colourful Lucky Jars to celebrate and then enjoy the cheerful jars all year round.
What you need:
- Five glass jars
- Paintbrush
- Print out of the word ‘LUCKY’ or you can freehand draw your own
- Craft knife
- Tape
- Small piece of foam
- Resene testpot paints in your choice of green colours, Fleur used Resene Good To Go, Resene Green House and Resene Quarter Parchment for the letters
Step 1: Start by removing the labels off the jars. Paint two coats of paint in your chosen Resene paint colours on to each of the jars, allowing for the first coat to dry before applying the second. Fleur used Resene Good To Go and Resene Green House. If you want the paint to last longer, apply one coat of Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer as a first coat before topcoating.
Step 2: Print out the word ‘LUCKY’, or freehand draw your own, and use a sharp craft knife to carefully cut out the letters. Use some tape to hold the letter stencils in place, then use a small piece of sponge or foam to dab on your chosen colour for the letters. Fleur used Resene Quarter Parchment. Be careful not to push paint under the edges of the stencil.
Step 3: Remove the stencil, allow for the paint to dry and then fill the jars with some water and your favourite flowers.
