Are your walls feeling a bit bare? You don’t have to spend hundreds of dollars on a piece of artwork, you can just make your own! Try this unique and quirky DIY cube art. Not only is it easy to make, but you can use colour combinations that perfectly suit your place. Choose all of your favourite Resene colours, or choose a few and make a pattern.
You will need:
- Wood, untreated pine, 42mm x 42mm
- Saw
- Resene Quick Dry
- Sandpaper
- Paintbrush
- Drill
- Pins or small nails
- Resene testpots in all of your favourite shades. Fleur used Resene Celery, Resene Very Berry, Resene Saratoga, Resene Avant Garde, Resene Teal Blue, Resene Bay Leaf, Resene Stinger, Resene Cinnamon and Resene Hot Toddy
Step 1: Cut the length of wood into 42mm x 42mm x 42mm cubes. Sand any rough edges smooth with sandpaper and prime with Resene Quick Dry.
Step 2: Paint the cubes with your chosen Resene colours. Fleur painted hers with Resene Celery, Resene Very Berry, Resene Saratoga, Resene Avant Garde, Resene Teal Blue, Resene Bay Leaf, Resene Stinger, Resene Cinnamon and Resene Hot Toddy.
Step 3: Drill a hole in the back of each block. The blocks are light enough that they can be held up with a sewing pin. Push the pin into the wall. You can also use a small nail, or if you’d rather put your cubes onto a canvas try using craft glue.
Wall painted in Resene Yuma, Resene Lemon Twist, Resene Rice Paper and Resene Moon Mist.
