A whale of an awareness project

18 Jul 2019

Ng?toro the Bottle Whale was created by Lorella from Rethinking Plastic Revolution and the Plastic Free July Taranaki team (a joint project of New Plymouth District Council, Para Kore, Enviroschools and Sustainable Taranaki) for Plastic Free July to raise awareness about single use plastics, especially plastic water bottles.

The project points to the effects of plastic pollution on local marine life such as our local orca whales and conscious kaitiakitanga, the actions we can take to protect the environment. Over 200 young people were involved in the creation of Ng?toro, hailing from various schools across the region.

Ng?toro is on display for the whole month of July at the Puke Ariki Landing in New Plymouth. For more information on the project, visit the Plastic Free July Taranaki Facebook page.

Ng?toro’s frame is painted in Resene Lumbersider, Environmental Choice approved low sheen paint.
